TLMC is proudly a black-owned health consultancy and operated by founder and principal consultant Sherldine Tomlinson. She brings a lot of knowledge and expertise with over 25 years of experience in community engagement, community and program development and equity.
Sherldine is passionate about supporting equitable, healthy, and sustainable communities and believes that healthy societies cultivate belonging, inclusion and engagement. However, she also notes that a healthy society is only possible if the social determinant of health is addressed and sustainable health policies are in place to erase the impact of inequalities and disparities that consistently affect marginalised and racialised groups.
As a doctoral candidate, she studies cardiovascular risk assessments and equity in lifestyle medicine, more specifically exercise leadership. Her research dissertation conducts a retrospective study to look at the health outcomes of Black Canadians who participated in a 17-week community-based exercise program with a view to support practical solutions for increased exercise effectiveness in cardiac patients of African descent. Sherldine's goal is to use her research to bring awareness and efforts to promote and support community-based lifestyle schemes such as exercise to reduce chronic disease prevalence, medical conditions, and psychological outcomes in black communities.
